Herekeh · Early 20th Century

Herekeh by Shirinian

Hereke, the imperial workshop on the Marmara shore, signed only work it stood behind — and this piece carries two signatures: the workshop's own mark and the personal cartouche of its weaver, Shirinian. Five years at one loom, in silk at six hundred knots to the square inch.

It took 5 years to make this by hand

Oval medallion with pendants on a soft gold floral field, salmon spandrels; signed with both the Hereke mark and the weaver Shirinian’s cartouche.
